You said the pull cord broke and was pulled out. Okay and that the
vertical blind was one that opened in the center.
Basics of operation:
These kind of blinds operate using pinch rollers or pulleys
to open and close the blind. There is a set of pulleys on both
ends and 2 sets of pull blocks in the middle. The terminus of
the cord should be to one side of the pull block in the middle.
It runs to a pulley to the left, over the top of it and to the right side
down and around and back to the right side of the middle where
it passes over the Top of another pull block then back to the right
pulley assembly down into the pull handle which has a pulley inside
of the handle or is mounted to a pulley block on the floor and back up to where
the cord terminates in a fixed knot near the wall by the ceiling.
Before you try to string the cord make sure you have one that will
fit within the confines of the pulley. Hardware stores often sell these
cords in repair packs or by the foot so take your cord with you to match
it. The cord must be an un-interrupted length of cord with no knots in
its open lengths. This keeps the pulleys from hanging up in mid draw.
Buy enough to go back and forth over the top bar 4 to 5 times this insures
you have enough to do the job. Plus a little bit of cord comes in handy for odd
jobs around the house.
